How 3D Printing Works
3D Printing starts with the 3D Model. The desired part is measured out and drawn in 3D in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) Program. This part can be a copy of something that already exists when 3D printing a replica, or it can be a unique part that has not existed before. It is in this stage that the required size of the part is determined, as well as how the final part will look.
The 3D model is then sent to a Slicer program, that chops the model into tiny microscopic slices for 3D printing. The sliced file is then sent to the 3D printer.
The 3D Printer is then set to GO. It will now use either plastic filament or plastic resin (depending on the type of printer) to print the object, one “slice” at a time until the entire 3D object is built, which usually takes several hours (see a time lapse of this stage on the right).
Finally, the part is removed from the printer, cleaned, and any plastic supports used for printing are removed. You now have a final part that is ready to either be used or painted if desired!

Good question! How much 3D printing costs can vary quite a lot depending on the material being printed and how large the piece you need printed is. If you already have a 3d Model, the price is determined by a setup fee, plus $3 per hour of 3d printing time required, and material cost. We charge a house minimum of $45 for 3D printing, so your minimum cost is $45 For prints that cost more than this, we waive the $45 minimum and charge as appropriate for the part. If you need your part 3D modeled, a 3D modeling fee of $80/hr of modeling time will also apply.
To give you an idea, a part the size of a softball will usually cost around $60 to print if you already have a 3D model, and around $140 if you need 3D modeling as well. This price can go up if its a particularly complicated or high tolerance part, but we always do everything we can to keep costs down and create great value for our customers. It is our goal to create functional and high quality 3D printed parts of the highest standard for our customers!

3D Printing is applicable for a wide range of industries! We have created functional firearms parts and accessories, car parts, toys, consumer products, and prototypes with 3D printing. It is the technology of choice for affordable prototypes and low to mid volume poduction parts. If you need a high volume of parts, be sure to ask us about our bulk/volume production prices!

3D Printing can benefit all creative people, and has brought manufacturing and production to the masses. Artists, creatives, entrepreneurs, and businesses all benefit from the ability to create unique and high quality manufactured parts quickly and affordably, without having the need for massive Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs)

This varies widely depending on the material being printed and the type of 3D printing used, but for most 3D prints you are looking at a minimum of 3 to 4 hours, and for large parts (greater than 6 inches in any dimension) more in the range of 10 to 20 hours of print time. When compared to tradtional manufacturing, this is incredibly fast, as traditional prototypes can often take weeks or months to build!
