How Laser Engraving Works
Laser Engraving starts with the artwork. The art or text is drawn as a vector file, which is type of digital file that the laser machine can read. It is during this stage the the art is drawn, and any typesetting or text is laid out.
The art is then sent to the laser engraving machine, and the material to be engraved is put into a “jig”. This is a clamp or device that holds the piece to be engraved still during engraving.
The laser is then set to GO. It will now use a highly focused laser beam to produce intense heat and actually vaporize the metal or other material away, leaving a deep, permanent engraving in the shape of your design. With careful choice of settings and materials, a variety of effects from colored engravings to knurling to highly polished finishes can be produced.
FAQs

Good Question! Cost can vary depending on the size of the project and the material. We charge a $45 minimum for laser engraving small projects, such as engraving initials on a watch or personalizing items. For larger projects like metal signage or engraving firearms parts, we charge by the square inch and the amount of design time required to create the artwork. Since costs vary widely by material(i.e. titanium is much harder to engrave than steel) contact us for an accurate quote of your project!

Laser engraving can take from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the material and size of the project. Putting initials or personalized messages on items and other small projects take 20 to 30 minutes on average. Complex, deep engravings on metal parts such as firearms can take up to a few hours per part.

It Doesn’t! A quality laser engraving will leave a permanent mark that won’t wear off with time, and will last the rest of the life of the item that was engraved

Laser Engravings can get quite miniscule, and are often used for small markings on medical and dental equipment. Laser engravings can get small enough with detail that you would hardly be able to read them. The minimum line width of an engraving is between 0.1mm and 0.5mm, depending on the model of engraving machine
